Pressure Drop a.k.a. Blood Brothers

Pressure Drop sind Justin Langlands und Dave Henley.

1986 trafen sich Justin Langlands und Dave Henley und begannen, auch gemeinsam irgendwann Platten aufzulegen, irgendwann auch in einem Piratradio in Brixton... 1990 begannen beide, selbst Musik zu schreiben und zu produzieren, um ihren musikalischen Ansprüchen gerecht zu werden. Back2Back war die erste EP, die unter dem Namen Pressure Drop veröffentlicht wurde, als Komponisten und Produzenten nannten sie sich Blood Brothers.

Mit den Samplern London Underground Vol. 1 - A Compilation of Independent Club/Dance Music (1992) und London Underground Vol. 2 - The Real Groove of the Nineties (1993) gaben sie einen Einblick in die Vielfalt der elektronischen Club- und Musikszene Londons, fast gleichzeitig mit dem Trip-Hop-Hype aus Bristol, ausgelöst durch Massive Attack. Im Booklet zu Volume 1 steht dazu: All major cities have a unique character. [...] London is truly cosmopolitan. It is a town where most of the world's nations have congregated bringing with them their cultures which have added so much to the host nation's way of life. You can judge the last statement by the music London produces, music which this compilation seeks to reflect and celebrate in all its diversity. [...] London Underground is a great taster of where the Capital's citizen have been at for the last four years.

Von 1993 bis 1997 waren die Blood Brothers auch on Air. Mit der exzellenten zweistündigen Radioshow Blood Brothers Broadcasting Corporation (BBBC) auf Jugendradio DT64/MDR Sputnik mixten sie einmal die Woche die besten Clubtunes zwischen Electronics, Jungle, Drum'n'Bass, Trip-Hop, Soul, Hip-Hop, Acid Jazz und was-es-sonst-noch-gab und veredelten sie mit zahlreichen Jingles und Soundeffekten. Der Slogan lautete: Outta space, in yer face! Und ich bin durch diese Show auf die Musik von Pressure Drop gestoßen :-)

Die Show wurde leider 1997 eingestellt. Aber der BBBC-Spirit lebt weiter. Zum Beispiel in der Hamburger Radiosendung Back To The Basics (BTTB) des Vinylizers Markus Maack, für die Pressure Drop in (un-)regelmäßigen Abständen BBBC-Mixe erstellen (siehe Iskra-Radiotipps). Übrigens, der Name der Radiosendung BTTB hat ihren Urpsrung im Pressure Drop-Song Back2Back.

Das neue Album bietet eine Rückschau auf die ersten fünf Jahre von Pressure Drop - Musik von ihrer ersten EP Back2Back bis zur Instrumental-EP Tearing The Silence. Die ersten beiden Langspielplatten Upset und Front Row wurden durch unglückliche Umstände nur in Deutschland, Österreich und in der Schweiz richtig veröffentlicht, noch nicht einmal in England. Ein Zustand, den Justin Langlands und Dave Henley schon immer einmal beheben wollten. Nachdem sie jetzt die Rechte zurückbekommen hatten, wurden die Songs auf Basis der Originalbänder digital neu aufgenommen und als Food of Love wiederveröffentlicht und zwar nun auf ihrem eigenen Label One Eye Records. Außerdem baten sie gute Freunde und Gleichgesinnte, ob sie nicht einige Songs neu interpretieren wollten. Und so remixten beispielsweise Richard Dorfmeister & Madrid de los Austrias, Adam Freeland, Paul Daley (Ex-Leftfield), Manasseh und DJ Rocca (vom Maffia Soundsystem) ihre jeweiligen Lieblingsstücke aus den Anfangsjahren der Blood Brothers... Outta space, in yer face!
